Feedback Still Arrives

Click to OrderIt’s been a year-and-half since The Weight of Silence was published, and I still receive feedback from people who have read the book or been inspired by the work I have profiled, being done on behalf of the invisible children of India. It always makes my week to receive emails like the ones I have this month:

I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate what you have done for the children of India, not only by going the orphanage to spend time with the children, but also by publishing the stories of the children in The Weight of Silence. I also have spent time volunteering with Indian orphans at a facility in rural Rajasthan. Those children are very important to me. I am a college student, and I am writing my senior thesis about the history and development of care for orphans in India. I was especially glad to see your point in the introduction about how it is not the place of Westerners to go in and tell Indians the best way to take care of children and that it is important that Indians care for Indians. This is a point that I have tried to make in my research, and I am glad that others agree with me. Thank you again for this book. It has inspired me to continue working towards my dream of working in India after finishing my education.

I just finished reading Weight of Silence. I picked it up for my Kindle just after watching Slumdog Millionaire this past weekend. You did a wonderful job with this book. Thank you for writing it.  I’m going to write something about your book on my blog.

I’m from India. I was born in Hyderabad (A.P.) but I’ve lived in Illinois since I was 4 and I’ve only visited India once since when I was 7. It’s been 34 years since that last visit. You really opened my eyes with this book. I’m going to have to do some soul searching now that I’ve been exposed to such a tragic state of affairs in India.
